I was reading the March 31 Sound Off, and it says none of the retiring teachers will be working for the district, but the list of retirees that was printed on March 20 included Judy Juneau and Steve Grant. They've both been hired to do other jobs in the district.
The March 31 question asked about teachers. Juneau and Grant are both administrators -- Lawrence Alternative High School principal and Free State assistant principal, respectively. Both have publicly announced their retirements as well as their intent to continue working for USD 497 on a part-time basis. State and district policies allow teachers and administrators to retire, collect their KPERS and district retirement benefits, and return to work without penalty as long as they earn less than $15,000 a year.
