The Secretary of State's Web site says that Friday was the deadline to apply for an advance ballot to be mailed. Because of mail delivery schedules, any delays could cause ballots sent from the office to the voters not to be received until after Tuesday. So, how will advance ballots be counted in the 2004 election?
To be counted, a mail ballot needs to be at the election office by 7 p.m. Tuesday. If it comes in after that time, a mail ballot wouldn't be included into the vote totals.
Douglas County Clerk Patty Jaimes said people applying for advance mail ballots at the deadline were taking a chance on whether their ballots would be back in time and counted.
Voters also can vote in advance at the county election office until noon Monday.
