Sound Off

At Ninth and Vermont, on the same lot as the old Carnegie Library building, there is a beautiful tree. It has a really lacy leaf. Can you tell me what kind it is?

It's a bald cypress.

"It's a really good tree for this area, though it's not native to Kansas," said Douglas County extension agent Bruce Chladny.

Be aware that in a few weeks, the tree will turn brown and quickly lose its leaves.

"That's normal," Chladny said. "It can go from brown to bare in a short period of time, so don't be alarmed."
