Last year, County Commissioner Jere McElhaney purchased gas, milk, bread and other items. He was supposed to keep the receipt to compare the 2003 prices for those items to the prices of those items this year for the county employees' cost of living raise. Does he still have his receipt, because gas, milk and bread have increased in price significantly this past year?
McElhaney said he hadn't done anything with the receipt at this time. But he also said Douglas County commissioners had made it a policy to not answer Sound Off questions.
"Our meetings are open to the public, and we do have time at our meetings for public comment and people are welcomed to come," McElhaney said.
He also noted that commissioners' phone numbers are published in the newspaper and listed in the phone directory.
