With Gov. Kathleen Sebelius considering a special legislative session on school finance, how many special sessions have there been?
In Kansas, there have been 20 special sessions, according to the Kansas Legislative Research Department. The first was in 1874 when the Legislature addressed providing relief for damages from grasshoppers, and the last one was in 1989 on property taxes. The longest was for 28 days in 1896 on judicial and legislative redistricting.
