I heard that our community hospital takes its board of directors on a vacation, along with their spouses, every year. Is this true?
"Continuing education is essential to effective board performance and decision making," said Janice Early-Weas, a spokeswoman for Lawrence Memorial Hospital. "National, state and regional seminars provide ongoing education for board members to learn about issues and trends facing the health care industry and hospitals today.
"Trustees have the opportunity to attend a national seminar, and their expenses are paid for by the hospital. They have the choice to take spouses, but those costs are their responsibility."
