Sound Off

I wondered what happened to the quarter design for the state of Kansas that said, "There's no place like home"? It seems like the final selections looked nothing like the initial designs that were going to be voted on by the students.

The state submitted five original concepts to the U.S. Mint for consideration. The Mint made slight changes to several of the designs based on "appropriateness and coinability" and rejected one, a reproduction of a John Steuart Curry painting, because of copyright laws.

The Mint then returned the possible designs to the state, which put the choice to a vote of high school students. The results will be announced today.
