Sound Off
Why doesn't the Lawrence school district go to a four-day school week? It would save one full day of busing, heating, air conditioning, cooks and teachers. They're off half a day on Wednesdays, so let them move to a full day off on Mondays and be off and save this money for the taxpayers.
"Because the school calendar affects so many in our community, proposals for significant changes are not taken lightly," said Julie Boyle, director of communications for the district. "The Lawrence Education Assn., which represents teachers in the school district, plans to research alternative school calendar options and report its findings to the Lawrence board of education. Any process for considering proposals to significantly alter the traditional school calendar will involve opportunities for community input."
