What is an RPI in basketball?
RPI stands for Rating Percentage Index. The NCAA uses its own RPI to determine seedings for its men's and women's basketball tournaments, but numerous other outlets also compile them.
RPIs generally give more credit to teams that schedule tough opponents and those that beat good teams, both at home and on the road. Some RPIs give teams bonus points for nonconference scheduling and for beating top 50 teams.
