Why are the standards for making the honor roll at Southwest Junior High School higher than the students at Central Junior High School?

Lawrence public schools allows each school to set its own standard for honor rolls. Central, South and West junior high schools use similar benchmarks.

Trish Bransky, principal at Southwest Junior High said the school established its standards after monitoring student achievement patterns during its first year of operation, 1995-1996.

"We believe that the standards are set, for our student body, at an achievable level but one that requires consistent academic effort," Bransky said.
