Is Barack Obama from Kansas?

Barack Obama, Tuesday night's keynote speaker at the Democratic convention, never lived in Kansas. But his mother and her family made their home near Wichita until the 1950s.

"My father was from Kenya, which is where I got my name," Obama said in material provided by his Illinois campaign for U.S. Senate. "My mother is from Kansas, which is where I got my accent from."

His grandfather worked oil rigs in the Wichita area when Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was a girl. That was followed by jobs that took the family to Texas and finally Seattle.

The Dunham family moved in 1959 to Honolulu, where Obama's parents met.
