I just was reading the morning's newspaper on "Board's new leader seeks bond issue; Salkind says overcrowding in junior highs needs to be remedied." Which junior high schools are overcrowded? What about looking at boundary lines in terms of changing?
"The District Boundary Committee is examining changes, but boundary adjustments would not fix the issue of overcrowding at the junior high schools. Classroom additions are needed," said Tom Bracciano, director of facilities and operations for Lawrence public schools.
Bracciano said the school board planned to revisit discussions of a bond issue proposal that would address classroom space needs at the junior high school level. The district has used portable classroom units to get by; Southwest has 11, South and West each have nine and Central has two portable classrooms. If patrons have questions about school facilities, they may contact Bracciano at 832-5975.
