Every week when we go to the band concert in the park, there is credit given to the Rice Foundation as one of the financiers of the concert. Please tell me about the Rice Foundation.

The Ethel and Raymond F. Rice Foundation, based in Lawrence, was established in 1972. Raymond Rice, a Kansas University School of Law graduate, served on the faculty of the law school from 1913 to 1926 and was a well-known corporate attorney for private clients , as well as for Kansas Electric Power Co., now Western Resources.

Ethel Rice was clerk of the Franklin County District Court and later was a court reporter in Douglas County.

The foundation made 30 grants totaling $501,200 during 2003.
