For years at Kansas University men's basketball games, the band played the Wheaties song after an opposing player fouled out and fans stood and waved the wheat. Why has that tradition stopped?

Tom Stidham, director of the KU basketball band, said a Big 12 Conference ruling that went into effect last year prohibits bands from playing in those situations. KU's band actually stopped the practice late last season after the ruling was clarified by conference officials. According to Stidham, the Wheaties song was first used by a KU basketball band during the 1970-71 season.
