The Journal-World ran an article recently about low pay for court-appointed defense attorneys.. How much money do the district attorney's office prosecutors earn?

Dist. Atty. Christine Kenney earns the equivalent of $48.18 per hour. The assistants in her office are paid between $21.16 and $35.94 per hour, plus benefits. However, all are salaried employees who can't earn overtime, and state law prohibits them from having a private practice.

Court-appointed defense attorneys in Kansas earn $50 per hour. Unlike the state's prosecutors, they must pay overhead costs that can consume up to half their hourly pay.
