Should I put my carbon monoxide detector down low to the floor or up high by the ceiling? Is carbon monoxide gas lighter or heavier than air?

It doesn't matter how high or low you put the detector because carbon monoxide is no lighter or heavier than air, said Mark Bradford, deputy chief at Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical. The only thing firefighters suggest is that you put the detector near a sleeping area, just as you would a smoke detector.
