Rumor has it that on Jan. 1 Kansas University Athletic Director Lew Perkins and Chancellor Robert Hemenway are going to get sizable raises on their income. Is this true?
Lynn Bretz, a Kansas University spokeswoman, said: "Neither the chancellor nor the athletics director will receive a salary increase in January.
"Unclassified professional staff and faculty salaries are set annually in accordance with Kansas Board of Regents and university policies and are a matter of public record. The chancellor's salary is set by the regents and publicly announced at their June meeting. All unclassified staff salaries are established on a fiscal year basis beginning in July, unless directed otherwise by the Legislature. The AD's salary is established by a multiyear contract.
"Any merit increases to the AD's salary are set by the chancellor on an annual basis, effective in July."
