Who had the authority to rename the Border War?
The athletic directors at Kansas University (Lew Perkins) and the University of Missouri (Mike Alden) decided to change the official name of the schools' rivalry to the Border Showdown from the Border War in October. Perkins and Alden said using the word "war" wasn't appropriate for sporting events, especially considering the ongoing situation with U.S. troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.
