I was just wondering whether there was a time frame that required political signs to come down. I know some are still up, and I was just curious.
Neither the city of Lawrence nor Douglas County has an ordinance specifying when political signs must be taken down. At one time there was a time requirement (two weeks after an election) in Lawrence, but the ordinance, which sets rules for various types of signs, was changed a few years ago, city officials said. The ordinance concerning political signs only states that they not exceed 16 square feet in size; that they not be placed in or on a public right-of-way; and that no political sign shall be placed on private property without the property owner's or occupant's permission.
