Sound Off

There's a Lawrence resident who is claiming to have been a prisoner of war in Vietnam. Apparently he did serve in Vietnam, but he is not on the official list of POWs. Is this guy one of those guys called a "phony veteran"? If so, what can be done about him?

There is no specific federal law that says you can't pass yourself off as a former prisoner of war, according to a spokeswoman in the Wichita office of U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren.

It is illegal, however, to pose as a military officer or wear a military uniform if you are not in the military, the spokeswoman said.
