Who pays for the operation when a Kansas University student-athlete needs surgery?

KU has a blanket insurance policy with a $3,000 deductible to cover all its student-athletes. However, KU sometimes files with the student's insurance company first. If the student-athlete's insurance is used, KU pays the deductible and the athlete's insurance picks up the rest. If an athlete stays for a fifth year, he or she is covered for that extra year as well.
