Police Chief Ron Olin was quoted in the Journal-World saying he couldn't comment on the department's policy about vehicle pursuits because he didn't have a copy in front of him. Shouldn't the chief of police of Lawrence and also his officers know what the policy is on high-speed pursuits without having a copy of it in front of them?

Sgt. Mike Pattrick, a department spokesman, said, "When we talk to the media, of course they want specific answers about specific portions of the policy. If it's not in front of the person being asked the question, it's impossible to answer without having to refer to that document."
