How much has money has the state spent representing poor defendants in death penalty cases?

About $10.8 million, according to the Kansas Judicial Council. Another $2 million is expected to be spent during the current fiscal year.

The death penalty in Kansas was reinstated in 1994 and seven people have been sentenced to death. None has been executed.
