We just found out that during Thursday's sidewalk sale downtown, the buses were free all over Lawrence. Why did they decide this and why, at least, on one day where they could make some revenue from these buses with all the people downtown?

Karin Rexroad, the city transit administrator, said: "People are more likely to try the transit system on the day the fare is waived and they are going to a known event. Riders who take advantage of the incentive, free ridership, will experience two benefits of the T, no traffic or parking worries. There is value in the future rides created by citizens riding the T for the first time to the annual sidewalk sale."
