I'm confused. I thought that South Junior High School and Broken Arrow School were built at the same time. I'm wondering if Broken Arrow also has an asbestos problem.

The schools on Louisiana Street opened in 1968. Both buildings contain asbestos in the ceilings, said Lawrence Supt. Randy Weseman. The asbestos is "encased" and of no danger to students or staff, he said.

Renovation of South was considered by the school board, but one reason for discarding that idea was that all asbestos in the building would have to be removed.

No renovation is planned inside Broken Arrow, which means the asbestos wouldn't be disturbed.
