Why were flags flying at half-staff Sunday at some locations around town?
On Dec. 7, Pearl Harbor Day, U.S. flags are to be flown all day at half-staff. The flag should also fly at half-staff all day on May 15, Peace Officers Memorial Day, and July 27, Korean War Veterans Armistice Day. On Memorial Day, the flag should fly at half-staff until noon, then be raised to the peak.
In 2002 and 2003, President Bush proclaimed Sept. 11 to be Patriot Day and ordered flags to be flown at half-staff all day.
