Why does the school system have that expensive building at 110 McDonald Drive for meetings when our school system needs the money to run the schools?
Austin Turney, Lawrence school board president, said the district spent $4.1 million to buy the warehouse and office complex at 110 McDonald Drive.
The two buildings on the site permitted the district to consolidate warehouse, printing and computer operations, as well as bring district staff together in one place. The buildings also is used for board meetings and staff training.
"We now have a central location that is efficient," Turney said.
He was part of a 4-3 majority on the board that voted in 1999 to approve purchase of the property.
