I noticed that when Kansas University waters its lawns, it just hooks its sprinklers up to fire hydrants. I was wondering if that water is metered and does KU pay for it?
Jim Long, KU's vice provost for facilities planning and management, said: "There are both city and KU fire hydrants on campus. The KU hydrants are connected to the central campus water system, which is metered by the city of Lawrence at the KU power plant. When KU waters the lawn, the water is supplied by the city through KU hydrants, and KU is billed for the water used."
