Why did the Lawrence school district change its spring break date to one week later than it usually is? Why was the public not notified?
Julie Boyle, district communications director, said the 2004 spring recess in the school district was scheduled to match the spring break granted Kansas University students. It's normal to match the calendars, she said.
This year's break is March 22-26. Last year's was March 17-21.
"The dates change as March days fall differently on the calendar each year," Boyle said.
The school board discusses and votes on the calendar at a public meeting in district headquarters. Meeting agendas are published in the Journal-World and meetings are carried live on Sunflower Broadband.
