I'm wondering in your Humane Society report, if it wouldn't also be helpful and effective to publish descriptions of dogs who are about to be put to sleep because no owner can be found for it?

The Lawrence Humane Society does not have a euthanasia schedule, Director Midge Grinstead said. It tries to adopt out all animals. The only ones euthanized right away are unadoptable, meaning they are either aggressive and fail the shelter's temperament test, test positive for heartworm or are severely injured or ill, she said. The shelter does have limited space, however, and when it runs out, animals who have been there longest are euthanized. The shelter euthanizes every Monday and Thursday.
