What ever happened to Jamie Kelley, the Lawrence man who has leukemia and went to Seattle to get a bone marrow transplant?
According to a friend, Kelley's transplant went off without a hitch on Oct. 2. He was doing really well in the weeks after the transplant and only last week began struggling with sores in his mouth and throat and other sickness common in the aftermath of such procedures. Though he is in a lot of pain, his doctors say he is doing better than most people in his situation. The typical patient at his stage would be receiving food and medication intravenously. Kelley's cell counts should begin rising soon, at which time he and his wife, Shawn, will be able to move back to their temporary apartment in Seattle for further recovery before heading back to Lawrence. Stories about Kelley's battle with leukemia appeared in July 7 and Sept. 30 editions of the Journal-World.
