What is the city ordinance on vicious dogs? Doesn't it ban pit bulls?
The law doesn't name a particular breed but instead concentrates on the dog's behavior. The city ordinance explains what a dog would have to do to be declared a "dangerous dog," such as aggressively attacking a person or a domestic animal without being provoked or teased.
If a dog is declared dangerous, the ordinance requires the dog be registered with the city and specifies how the dog is to be confined. If a dangerous dog gets loose and attacks a domestic animal or a person, the ordinance explains judge's options for punishing its owner.
The city's dangerous dog ordinance is online at web.ci.lawrence.ks.us/legal_services/citycode/chapter3.html.
