What does the city of Lawrence do with all the yard waste its crews pick up? Does the city have a composting program that's open to the public?

The yard waste grass clippings and leaves, primarily are taken to a city-owned site on East Eighth Street, where it's composted and used in a variety of projects around town, including landfill cover and flower beds.

From time to time, but on no fixed schedule, the city offers compost to the public. Notice of those compost days and when they occur are published in the Journal-World.
