Who pays for the sex column in The University Daily Kansan?
Sex columnist Meghan Bainum's salary is paid by Kansan advertising. Students also pay a $3 media fee per semester that supports the Kansan and other campus media.
"The Kansan publishes the sex column because of its popularity with students," editor in chief Leita Walker said. "When Bainum stopped writing the column after last semester, we got all kinds of complaints until she started writing it again. Although the sex column would not necessarily be appropriate for a more mainstream newspaper, the Kansan reaches a more unique, alternative audience of mostly 20-somethings."
