How many properties have been inspected, and how many have passed under the new ordinance for inspecting rental properties in single-family zoned ordinances? Of those who don't pass, what is the main problem?
Neighborhood Re-sources Director Victor Torres said: "Of the 1,550 properties registered as of March 8, 163 inspections have been completed. Several properties have had major code violations; however, the majority have had minor code violations that are easily corrected. The frequent violations our inspectors have found are items such as lack of operating smoke detectors (batteries removed), ground-fault circuit-interrupter in kitchens and bath areas and lack of appropriately sized emergency escape windows in bedrooms. Property owners are notified of code violations and provided sufficient time to correct prior to a reinspection."
