Are postal workers allowed to smoke and drive mail trucks at the same time?
No, said Lawrence Postmaster Bill Reynolds. The reason is safety and protection of the mail. There is a lot of paper in a mail truck.
Postal employees driving trucks, however, do get breaks during their eight-hour shifts. There is nothing wrong with parking the truck and getting out to smoke during a break, Reynolds said.
