I'd like to know why public school teachers are paid for 12 months of work when it looks like they only work nine months or 10 months? What is the salary for a beginning teacher, and what is the salary for a teacher with 10 years of experience?

Supt. Randy Weseman said Lawrence public school teachers are paid for a nine-month contract. These employees can have pay checks spread over 12 months, but most don't.

Beginning salary of a novice teacher in the district will be $26,680 in 2001-2002.

A teacher with 10 years experience, a bachelor's degree and 20 hours of graduate course credit earns $34,500. After 20 years and the same education level, the salary is $38,410.
