Recently, Kansas University posted a sign announcing construction of a new strength-training center to the north of Anschutz Sports Pavilion. The sign was posted behind a 40-foot-tall, long-needle pine, and now the tree has been cut down. Why did they place the sign where they did, obscured by the tree?

KU spokesman Todd Cohen said: "The sign was placed where it was for maximum effect during football recruiting visits. The tree was slated for removal in April when construction for the new strength center project begins. The removal was accelerated to enhance the visibility of the sign during the interim. There will be considerable landscaping around the new facility, and new trees will be planted as part of the project."
