If an apartment complex has a resident who is a convicted child molester, is someone from the apartment management required to notify people who are about to, or have already, signed leases to live in that apartment complex?
The answer is no, according to the Kansas Attorney General's Office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Kansas is a "passive notification" state, said Kyle Smith, KBI spokesman. That means no one is under any obligation to notify neighborhood residents or apartment residents about a convicted child molester living in their midst.
