When does Commissioner Jones' resignation go into effect, and how long will it be?
Charles Jones formally resigned as a Douglas County commissioner after Wednesday night's commission meeting. The resignation took effect at midnight.
Although Jones will continue to attend commission meetings, participate in commission deliberations and sit in his commission chair at the county courthouse, Jones will not be able to vote on any county business until he is sworn back into office Jan. 13.
Jones decided to forfeit the final month of his four-year commission term so that he could be eligible once again to enroll in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement Program.
