Every day you read in the paper how tight money is in the Lawrence school district, yet they water the sports lawns every day. Who pays for this?

Tom Bracciano, the district's director of facilities and operations, said the school board annually budgeted for sewer, water and sanitation needs at all the school buildings and grounds.

He said football, soccer and baseball surfaces were watered "as needed."

"We water sports fields to keep them in a condition that hopefully will prevent injuries to the participants using them," Bracciano said. "Otherwise, it's like playing on concrete."
