Why don't Lawrence Police officers wear their seatbelts when they drive? Aren't these the same people who give out citations for not wearing seatbelts? Aren't they required to abide by the law as well?

Lawrence Police do wear their seatbelts when on routine patrol, department spokesman Sgt. Mike Pattrick said. There are times, though, when it is tactically advantageous for the officer to take the seatbelt off, such as when trying to stop a vehicle or when the need to exit the vehicle in a rapid manner is warranted, Pattrick said.
