How much did the B-1B bomber flyover at Memorial Stadium for the Jayhawks' homecoming cost the taxpayers?

Col. Kevin McNellis, an instructor with the Air Force ROTC at Kansas University, said the cost to taxpayers for the flyover was "incremental" and only included the price of fuel for an extra 15 minutes of air time. That's because the B-1B bomber from the 184th bomb wing at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, which was piloted by four KU graduates, flew over Memorial Stadium at the end of a mission to the Smoky Hills bombing range in Salina. Fifteen extra minutes of A-1 jet fuel amounts to about 258 gallons, which, at $1.05 a gallon, costs about $271, McNellis said.
