Is there a blue moon in November?

In popular culture, "blue moon" typically refers to the second of two full moons in the same month. Technically, there are two full moons during November for time zones from New York east to Moscow, with the blue moon occurring today.

The moon in other time zones including the Central time zone in Lawrence is technically full on Saturday, so it wouldn't be a blue moon here. There were two full moons here during October, however.

Most scientists recognize the true meaning of "blue moon" as 13 full moons during a calendar year. That was the definition until a magazine erroneously published the now-popular definition about two full moons in a month during the 1950s.
