Who is responsible for fixing the pothole at U.S. Highway 59 and County Road 458, going west? Keith Browning, the county's director of public works, said it depends on the exact location of the pothole. He said the Kansas Department of Transportation is responsible for maintenance on the portion of County Road 458 that is within U.S. Highway 59 right-of-way, or approximately to the end of the median that separates eastbound and westbound traffic. He said the county's responsibility begins west of the median and is indicated by the east end of the chip-and-sealed portion of roadway.
Browning said the county has temporarily patched a pothole in the portion of Route 458 within KDOT right-of-way a couple of times this year.
