Sound Off

Why has the bridge on Trailriders Road been closed off, and when it will be reopened to the public?

The bridge, on East 800 Road west of Lawrence, has been closed since early February when a transport truck that exceeded height limits passed under it on Interstate 70 and damaged a beam.

Tom Wurdeman, chief engineer for the Kansas Turnpike Authority, said the department has determined what is needed to repair the bridge and has taken bids to do the work. However, he said he also is working with the insurance company to pay for the project, and it's just a matter of getting everything lined up. He said he expects the bridge to be closed for about another month.
