Each year around this time the Kansas State Troopers' Assn. makes calls to get money. I asked how many people they had making these calls and they said there were 70 paid solicitors. Is this a scam or are they supported by any law enforcement agency in Kansas?
"It is a legitimate telemarketing campaign we hold every year," answers Amy Claycamp, communications director for the Kansas State Troopers Assn.
The association works with Civic Development, a company from West Virginia.
Donations go toward after-prom parties, Special Olympics, Students Against Driving Drunk, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, scholarships for troopers' children and memorials for troopers killed in the line of duty, she said.
People who agree to contribute are sent a pledge form in the mail, Claycamp said. They will not be asked for a credit card number.
