Who are the men depicted in the statue outside Lippincott Hall at KU?

They're James Woods Green, first dean of the KU School of Law, and a student whose face was modeled after a photograph of Alfred C. Alford, the first KU graduate killed in the Spanish-American War.

The statue, unveiled in 1924, was sculpted by Daniel Chester French. It is known as the "Uncle Jimmy Green" statue.
