Why isn't city hall, 6 E. Sixth St., on the list of buildings that don't meet the proposed downtown design guidelines? It's not very traditional.
Dennis Enslinger, the city's historic resources coordinator, said: "Icon buildings such as city hall, the courthouse, the churches ... traditionally play a different role within context of downtown. These icon buildings are not only differentiated by their governmental or institutional uses but by their building forms. The proposed downtown design guidelines do not specifically address icon buildings, therefore buildings that fell within this category were not included in the noncontributing properties list."
