What decibel are the sound limits set at in North Lawrence, and what is the decibel level of the grain elevator? I think the grain elevator may have a decibel level that exceeds the limits.
The city of Lawrence does not have decibel level measurements, but Sgt. Mike Pattrick said the Lawrence Police Department does enforce a noise ordinance.
According to the city's codes, the purpose of the ordinance is to protect individuals from unreasonable intrusions caused by excessive, unnecessary or unusually loud noises.
It is unlawful for any person to make excessive, unreasonable or unusually loud noises or operate any electronic device that produces sound that disturbs the peace. A business using machinery would not fall into that category, Pattrick said.
